Description
A one-pan casserole made with ground beef, French onion soup, and rice, finished with melted mozzarella and crispy onions. Easy to prep and full of comforting flavor.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
2 cans (10.5 oz each) beef consommé
2 cans (10.5 oz each) French onion soup
2 cups long-grain white rice, uncooked
¾ cup water
½ cup butter, sliced
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
3 oz French fried onions
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 425°F and grease a 9×13-inch dish.
2. Brown ground beef in skillet with garlic powder and pepper, about 7–8 minutes. Drain.
3. Combine beef, uncooked rice, consommé, onion soup, and water in baking dish. Mix well.
4. Top with sliced butter, spaced evenly across surface.
5. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
6. Uncover and continue baking for 25 minutes.
7. Top with cheese and French fried onions. Bake for 5–6 more minutes.
8. Remove from oven, rest a few minutes, then fluff and serve.
Notes
Use Swiss instead of mozzarella for a sharper flavor.
Brown rice can be used with extra liquid and time.
Add peas or corn for a veggie boost.
