Description

This Classic Homemade Orange Candy recipe creates a chewy, zesty treat full of real citrus flavor. Made with orange juice, zest, and simple pantry staples, this old-fashioned candy is sweet, nostalgic, and perfect for gifts or snacking.

Ingredients

Scale

2 large fresh oranges, zested and juiced

2 cups granulated sugar

1/4 cup corn syrup

1/2 cup water

1 tablespoon butter

1 packet (7g) unflavored gelatin

1 teaspoon orange extract (optional)

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

A pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

1. Zest and juice the oranges, avoiding the bitter white pith.

2. In a saucepan, combine orange juice, water, sugar, and corn syrup. Stir over medium heat until dissolved.

3. Simmer gently for 10 minutes to thicken slightly.

4. Bloom gelatin in 1/4 cup cold water for 5 minutes.

5. Remove syrup from heat. Stir in bloomed gelatin until fully dissolved.

6. Add butter, orange zest, orange extract (if using), and salt. Return to low heat for 5 minutes, stirring gently.

7. Let mixture cool at room temperature for 1 to 2 hours.

8. Pour into greased molds or dish. Cover and refrigerate for 4 to 6 hours.

9. Cut into pieces or unmold, then dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Use silicone molds for easy shaping.

Add lemon or vanilla extract for a twist.

To make it vegetarian, substitute gelatin with agar agar and adjust setting times accordingly.
