This Classic Homemade Orange Candy recipe creates a chewy, zesty treat full of real citrus flavor. Made with orange juice, zest, and simple pantry staples, this old-fashioned candy is sweet, nostalgic, and perfect for gifts or snacking.
Ingredients
2 large fresh oranges, zested and juiced
2 cups granulated sugar
1/4 cup corn syrup
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon butter
1 packet (7g) unflavored gelatin
1 teaspoon orange extract (optional)
Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
A pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions
1. Zest and juice the oranges, avoiding the bitter white pith.
2. In a saucepan, combine orange juice, water, sugar, and corn syrup. Stir over medium heat until dissolved.
3. Simmer gently for 10 minutes to thicken slightly.
4. Bloom gelatin in 1/4 cup cold water for 5 minutes.
5. Remove syrup from heat. Stir in bloomed gelatin until fully dissolved.
6. Add butter, orange zest, orange extract (if using), and salt. Return to low heat for 5 minutes, stirring gently.
7. Let mixture cool at room temperature for 1 to 2 hours.
8. Pour into greased molds or dish. Cover and refrigerate for 4 to 6 hours.
9. Cut into pieces or unmold, then dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
Use silicone molds for easy shaping.
Add lemon or vanilla extract for a twist.
To make it vegetarian, substitute gelatin with agar agar and adjust setting times accordingly.
