Description
Crispy, golden mozzarella sticks with a molten center. This easy recipe uses layered coating and a freezer trick to deliver perfect results every time.
Ingredients
16 oz block whole milk mozzarella cheese
3 large eggs
3 cups Italian style bread crumbs
1/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp water
Tallow or other deep frying fat
Instructions
1. Cut mozzarella into 1/2-inch thick sticks, about 3 inches long.
2. In a bowl, whisk eggs with salt and water. Add breadcrumbs to another bowl.
3. Dip each mozzarella stick into the egg wash, then coat in breadcrumbs.
4. Repeat coating process a second and third time for better results.
5. Freeze coated mozzarella sticks for at least 2 hours until firm.
6. Heat oil to 365°F in a deep pan or fryer.
7. Fry a few sticks at a time for about 2 minutes until golden brown.
8. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with dipping sauce.
Notes
String cheese can be used as an alternative to block mozzarella.
Add herbs, spices, or Parmesan to breadcrumbs for extra flavor.
Frozen, uncooked sticks can be stored for 2 months.
To reheat, bake in a 350°F oven for 10 minutes until crisp.
