Description
Tender Hawaiian Kalua Pork slow cooked with sea salt and smoky flavor for juicy shredded pork.
Ingredients
6 lb pork shoulder or pork butt roast
1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 1/2 tablespoons Hawaiian sea salt or Himalayan salt
1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 1/2 tablespoons liquid smoke
Instructions
1. Pat pork dry with paper towels and season with salt, ginger, garlic powder and pepper
2. Heat oil in a skillet and sear the pork on all sides
3. Transfer the browned pork into a slow cooker
4. Brush liquid smoke evenly over the pork
5. Cover and cook on low for 8 to 12 hours
6. Shred the pork with two forks once tender
7. Mix the shredded pork with the cooking juices and cook another 20 minutes
Notes
Use pork butt for extra tenderness
Cook on low heat for best results
Serve with rice, cabbage, or in sandwiches
