Description

This orange jam with warm spices is a cozy homemade preserve that brings together the brightness of citrus and the comforting aroma of cinnamon, cloves, and star anise. It’s made without added pectin and is perfect for spreading, gifting, or canning.


Ingredients

3 lbs oranges, peeled (about 5 cups puree)

1 cup sugar

12 cinnamon sticks

12 star anise pods

12 whole cloves (optional)


Instructions

1. Peel the oranges and remove as much of the white pith as possible to prevent bitterness.

2. Blend the orange segments using a blender or immersion blender until smooth.

3. Pour the orange puree into a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Add sugar, cinnamon sticks, star anise, and cloves.

4. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

5. Simmer for 20–30 minutes until thickened, stirring more frequently toward the end.

6. Test the jam by placing a spoonful on a cold plate. If it wrinkles when pushed, it’s ready.

7. Pour hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4-inch headspace.

8. For longer storage, process jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes.

Notes

You can add cardamom, ginger, or orange zest for extra flavor. For a marmalade-style texture, stir in blanched orange peel. Adjust sugar based on the sweetness of your oranges. If reducing sugar, cook longer to reach proper consistency.
