Description

A creamy, crispy, and comforting Campbell’s Green Bean Casserole inspired by Pioneer Woman. Perfect for the holidays, this classic side dish combines rich mushroom flavor, tender green beans, and a golden onion topping.

Ingredients

Scale

½ cup whole milk

¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

1 teaspoon soy sauce

1 can (10.5 oz) Campbell’s condensed cream of mushroom soup

4 cups green beans (fresh, frozen, or canned)

1 ⅓ cups crispy fried onions, divided

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Trim and cut fresh green beans into 2-inch pieces. Blanch for 4 to 5 minutes, then drain well. Thaw frozen beans or drain canned beans if using.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together Campbell’s condensed cream of mushroom soup, milk, and soy sauce until smooth and creamy.

3. Add green beans, black pepper, and ⅔ cup of fried onions. Stir gently to coat without crushing the onions.

4. Transfer the mixture into a 9×9-inch baking dish and spread evenly. Bake uncovered for 25 minutes, until bubbling and hot.

5. Remove from the oven. Stir gently, top with the remaining fried onions, and return to the oven for 5 minutes until golden and crisp.

6. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

To make ahead, prepare the casserole without topping and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Add onions right before baking.

For vegetarian, choose a vegetarian mushroom soup. To make gluten-free, use tamari instead of soy sauce and gluten-free fried onions.

For more flavor, mix in shredded cheddar, crispy bacon bits, or sautéed mushrooms before baking.
