Description

These Air Fryer Onion Rings feature a crisp panko coating and a tender, sweet onion center. They cook in only 8 minutes and make an easy appetizer, snack, or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale

2 large onions

2 large eggs

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

Optional cooking spray

Instructions

1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F or 190°C.

2. Peel the onions and slice them into rings about 1/4 inch thick. Separate the rings carefully.

3. Combine the flour, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika in a shallow bowl.

4. Beat the eggs in a second bowl until smooth.

5. Place the panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.

6. Coat each onion ring in the seasoned flour, then shake off the excess.

7. Dip the floured onion ring into the beaten egg.

8. Press the onion ring into the panko breadcrumbs until fully coated.

9. Arrange the breaded onion rings in a single layer inside the air fryer basket.

10. Lightly spray the onion rings with cooking oil, if desired.

11. Air fry for 8 minutes, flipping halfway through.

12. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Use panko breadcrumbs for the crispiest coating.

Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. Cook in batches when necessary.

Sweet onions, including Walla Walla onions, provide a mild and naturally sweet flavor.

Add garlic powder, onion powder, or cayenne pepper to adjust the seasoning.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Freeze cooled onion rings in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months.

Reheat refrigerated or frozen onion rings in a preheated air fryer until hot and crispy.

Frozen onion rings do not require thawing, but they may need a few extra minutes.
