9. Pour the melted butter over the dry topping ingredients.
10. Stir until a coarse, crumbly mixture forms.
11. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
12. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes.
13. Remove the crisp from the oven when the topping is golden and the filling bubbles around the edges.
14. Let the apple crisp rest for about 10 minutes.
15. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel sauce.
Notes
Use firm baking apples such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Braeburn, or Pink Lady.
Cut the apples into similar-sized slices so they bake evenly.
Do not overmix the topping because a loose, crumbly texture creates a crisper finish.
Bake until the topping turns deeply golden and the fruit filling bubbles at the edges.
Avoid covering the apple crisp while it is still warm because trapped steam can soften the topping.
Add a pinch of nutmeg or apple pie spice for extra warmth.
Mix chopped pecans or walnuts into the topping for additional crunch.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Reheat in a 350°F oven for 10 to 15 minutes to help restore the crisp topping.
Freeze the cooled apple crisp in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.
